Umberdosh Restoration

Terms of service

Last updated July 2026.

1. Who we are

These terms are between you (the customer) and Umberdosh Restoration. When we say "we", "us" or "our", we mean Umberdosh Restoration. When we say "you" or "your", we mean the person placing the order.

2. What we do

We digitise printed photographs, 35mm slides and negatives, video tapes (VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, MiniDV), audio cassettes, 8mm and Super 8 cine film, bound albums and loose documents into modern digital files, and return your originals by tracked post.

3. Placing an order

An order is placed when you complete our online quote and checkout. We may decline or adjust an order if the items you send differ materially from what was quoted; we'll always contact you first before making any change that affects the price.

4. Sending your originals

You are responsible for packaging and posting your originals to us, and for choosing what level of postal insurance you want on the outbound journey. We strongly recommend using a tracked, insured service for irreplaceable items. We are not responsible for loss or damage that occurs in transit before your parcel reaches us.

Once we've signed for the parcel, we look after your originals as if they were our own — climate-controlled storage, item-level tracking, and safe handling procedures. When your order is complete we return your originals at our cost by a tracked and insured service.

5. Timelines

Typical turnaround is 3–6 weeks from arrival, depending on collection size and any enhancement or research work. We'll always give you a realistic estimate before starting and keep you updated if anything changes.

6. Payment

Payment is taken online at checkout via Stripe. Where a card payment isn't yet available, an order may be created with an "awaiting payment" status; we'll then send you a secure payment link before starting work. Archive orders are billed in two stages: a deposit at order, with a final balance once we've seen the collection.

7. Files and ownership

You own the copyright in your originals and in the digital files we produce for you. We keep a working copy for 90 days after delivery so we can re-send if anything goes wrong, after which it is permanently deleted.

8. Enhancements and research

Colourisation, scratch-and-dust reduction, and the Archive research service involve judgement calls. We do our best, but we can't guarantee any specific creative or historical outcome. If you're not happy with an enhancement, tell us within 14 days and we'll rework it or refund that line item.

9. Liability

While in our care, if we lose or damage an item through our fault, our liability is limited to the reasonable replacement or restoration cost of that specific item and, in any event, to the total amount paid for your order. We cannot compensate for sentimental value.

10. Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel before we've started work for a full refund. Once digitisation has begun, we'll refund any work not yet undertaken. Completed work is non-refundable except where the deliverables are materially defective.

11. Getting in touch

Questions, worries, or a problem with an order? Email sales@marms.uk and a real person will reply.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute is subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
